The members of the "Villő" dance group are children who are aged between 13 and 16. These children are taught Hungarian folk dance in afternoon extracurricular classes of the Art School of Martonvásár.

Vajda Rozália és Vajda LeventeThe members of the dance group started their journey in the wonders of Hungarian folk dance at the age of 6-7. After two years of training the group took part in their first festival (Szekszárdi Pünkösdölő - National Dance Festival) on 2002 may 18-19. Later that year on may 26th they participated in the VI. Sárvíz Folklore Dance Festival on which they were awarded a certificate for their stunning performance. In June 2003 they received yet another certificate in the III. Folklore Dance Festival of National Art Schools and on the VII. Sárvíz Folklore Dance Festival.

Their breakthrough was in 2004 on the National Competition of Art Schools in the category of folk dance. In the finals they gained the most prestigious prize, the High-standard award (NÍVÓDÍJ).

The School

Vajda Rozália és Vajda LeventeThe Art School of Martonvásár was found in 1991 january 1. In 1993 august 1 this institution became self-sufficient.

We started from nothin in 1993, with only a few, old instruments. Because of our tight budget we were forced to search for sponsors. However because of this our small institution grew with time and is now capable of accepting children from nearby villages.

In 1994 we had groups from Vál and Tordas. In 1998 our institution consisted of six settlements (Martonvásár, Baracska, Gyúró, Kajászó, Tordas, Vál) which is a feat not yet seen in Hungary. In 2000 Alcsútdoboz, in 2002 Ráckeresztúr and in 2004 Pázmánd joined our institution.

Our institution is proud to leave its mark on both social and cultural layer of Martonvásár and its region.

The Town

Martonvásár is a Settlement found 30 km from Budapest. The position of this settlement is remarkable since it is found on the M7 highway which is bound to lake Balaton. The region is rich in agriculture and beauty. Because of this it has always acted as a magnet for settlers from the beginning of time.

Villa Forum Martini or Marton Vására falu was a marketplace in 1268. However this rising marketplace was destroyed in the Ottoman times. Later Martonvásár was the residence of the Brunszvik Counts. The musical genius, Ludwig van Beethoven, was often a guest of the Counts. There are several letters which prove that Beethovens' "only love" was Brunszvik Teréz.
